Through Module Two I have learnt alot about blogs. I have used them in the past, but, I have never really used them in the classroom. In my brain I have made excuses for not using them. "I teach Kindergarten... they cant blog???" But can they???
Feeling very guilty about this 'kindy cant blog' mindset I decided to go onto YouTube and see if any other kindy teachers are using blogs. Well... yes. I was put to shame. Check out the video below.
How could I use blogs in my classroom?
- Communication with parents
- Student writing prompts
- Calenders, homework and upcoming events
- Post photos of students work samples
- Provide online reading that the students have to respond to
- Links to good educational games that the students could play
- Create a class newsletter, with students work and photos
- Links to videos on YouTube
- Keep journals
- Surveys/ polls
- Ongoing portfolio samples
- Showcase best writing pieces
- Small group project work
- Communicating with other classes throughout the world.
Wow! They are more advanced than my Year 2's!! That's incredible! I hope to see Kindy Bindy's at CTK using blogs ASAP now! That's great!
